Hello - I'm trying to get a number value of rows with the word 'yes' in them. I'm sure this is very simple, but I'm just not getting it. I keep getting 0, and I did check previous questions, but I don't think I worded it correctly.

Thanks, if anyone can help me.

=sumif(d3:d5,"=Yes",e3:e5)

This will look at d3 and see if it has a yes and then sum up what is in e3 etc.

Thank you, but this didn't quite work out. I'm adding 'yes' rows as I work down the column, and I did exactly as you indicated, even starting a new sheet with 'yes' in d3 and d5, but still got 0.

=countif(A1:A20,"yes")

a1:a20 is the range, change to whatever is yours

[Blue]Blue[/Blue] [Dragon]

If I wasn't Blue, I would just be a Dragon...

Thank you so much Bluedragon2, and mltoombs as well.

You should note however that bluedragon's solution will not count " yes" or "yes " if that was inadvertently entered into a cell.

if mintjulep's point worries you:
=countif(A1:A20, "*yes*")
