Excel 2003 - Disappereaing Formulas

Hi
Could any one tell me why, when I type in a cell formula, eg something as simple as =A1+A2, that the cell calculates the correct mathematical answer but when I return the cursor to that cell, the formula bar does not show =A1+A2, just the numerals of the answer. Is there a cell format I've accidentally activated?

Are you sure that there isn't a Worksheet event macro that's converting your formula to values?

Does this happen only in one workbook? What happens if you insert a sheet or add a new workbook?

Nope, theres no event macros in operation.

It seemed to be confined to one column of one worksheet. Even elsewhere on the same sheet, the formula would stick. I even tried deleting that col then inserting a new one but that didnt help.

Since the original posting, I recreated the entire sheet and that solved the problem. As this has happened once before, I was just wondering if there was some cell parameter I wasnt aware of

For that one column where the formulas disappear; highlight the cells, go to Format, Cells, Select Protection tab and uncheck [red]Hidden[/red]
