I have received an Excel 2003 workbook. When I click on certain cells a box pops up with a tip as to the use of that cell which looks rather like a comment box.

However, there is no comment indicator, the box has no shadow and clear comments does not get rid of it. Equally, clear contents and clear formats do not touch it but Edit, Clear All does zap it.

So it's more like a floating text box linked to the cell.

I do not like seeing something I do not know how to do.

What am I looking at?

(Until recently I was using Excel 2k so I have jumped a version.)

Thanks

Ken

Skip

I thought about that particularly as there is a protected add-in associated with the file.

However, I cannot see how the association with the cell works. Most of these cells are text. I can change the text and the pop-up works. I can delete the text and it works. However, edit clear all stops it working. I cannot think what might be cleared by Edit Clear All that the event driven macro latches onto.

Thanks

Ken

What about just disabling the Add-in, or is it necessary for that workbook's functions?

That's probably a Data/Validation prompt. Do Data/Validation/Clear All to get rid of it.

Cheers, Glenn.

Glen you hit the nail on the head - so obvious when you know the answer!

Hey, Cheerio.

Would you still be looking for an answer, if it hadn't been for GlenUK?

Wouldn't it be great if you gave him a star to appreaciate the fact he does this not expecting rewards?

I have given the star which is fully justified.

I have been away from my desk for a few days - hence the delay.

Thanks for all the help.

My pleasure :-D

Cheers, Glenn.
