Excel 2000 save as has quotation marks at both ends of file name

I have been using templates that I have done up and whenever I do a save as (workbook) it always puts a quotation mark at the beginning and end of the path & file name. It is very annoying and has to be manually removed.

Example: 'C:\My Documents\APR Disclosure"

Is there any way to stop the quotation marks or is it something we will just have to deal with?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the template is not an excel file but, say, a text file saved with a file extension of xlt/xls then you can get the effect you describe.

But these templates have never been a text file. Is there anyway to change them so it doesn't save them with the apostrophe's in the name

If your Path & file name have any SPACE in the string, then APOSTROPHIES must delimit the string.

When we do a file save as we remove them from the beginning of the path and at the end of the file name
Example: "C:\My Documents\APR Calculation.xls"
should be C:\My Documents\APR Calculation.xls

I do not understand why your SaveAs NAME includes the path? That path information is implicit in the SaveAs dialog window???

If the file is saved with the quotes you can't find it when you want to re-open it. You have to manually go into the folder and open it there and some of the people here don't know how to do that. It shows as a text file but had the Excel extension.

Must be a 'feature' of 2000. 2007 saves sans quotes.

Try this:
open the template.
File, Save As ... make sure type is Excel workbook or similar and no quotes in the name and does not include the .xls
File, Save As ... change type to Template (if you really are using a proper template)

Oops, sent before I intended. The problem could be many but if you saved as a Template but then in the filename specified .XLS that would cause the issue as the proper extension for a template is .xlt...

I think I have it figured out! Thanks for the idea of the extension. It wasn't that but I have been asked to keep a version # visible on each one and at the end of the name is a V1.0 or V1.01 If I remove the .0 I don't have the problem.
