Secaucus Router:

1. The lights on/off are as follows:
CD light = ON
AL light = ON
LP light = OFF

Power light = ON
RPS light = OFF
Activity light = FLASHES

2. Router#Debug interface serial 0/0
Condition 1 set
Router#

Gloucester Router:

1. The lights on/off are as follows:
CD light = OFF
AL light = ON
LP light = OFF

The problems appears to be at the Glouchester router, sinec the CD light is not on, it's not getting a signal from the telco's switch at all. Someone needs to check the wiring beyond the jack where you plug in that router's serial interface, because there's something wrong there. The best way to ensure it's being tested all the way to that jack is to create a hardware looping plug. Instructions: Plug in the loopback jack, and have the provider test to that.

Another problem could be a bad CSU/DSU or a bad patch cable at the glouchester router. This is probably unlikely, though. You can force the router to perform a self-test on the DSU by issuing the "clear service-module serial0/0" command.

Question 1: What is the correct light on/off setting for the CD, AL and LP lights - when everything is working what should they be ?

Question 2: Everything is plugged into a hug switch: LinkSys Model EZXF88W - it is an 8 port hub - everything else plugged into that hub works just fine.

When everything is working, just the CD light should be on and green. When the AL light is on (and amber) it means there's an alarm on the line.

The serial interface should not be plugged into a hub! Even though the connectors are similar, a serial connection is completely different than an ethernet connection. You should have somewhere else to plug it in that's specifically installed for the T1, usually extended from your telephone wiring closet.

1. Unplugged the T1 from the Hub in Gloucester.

2. The T1 in Secaucus is plugged directly into a data center port.

3. Question: What about the Secaucus router: Is that serial down/down because of the Gloucester router? Or, are there other things that I need to correct in Secaucus too?

The Secaucus router is probably fine. Since this is a leased-line T1, both ends have to be connected to routers before they'll both come up/up. So to answer your question, yes, it's down because the Gloucester router isn't plugged in to the other end.

I'll try to do this on Tues/Wed. The Gloucester router was set up and connected by someone else. Even then, the Secaucus Serial Interface was up/down (Serial plugged into the data center port and the router) and the Ethernet Interface was up/down (Ethernet not plugged into any port - just connected to the router). And, I was only able to ping the Gloucester Ethernet address - which was the same Ethernet address in Secaucas. (I have since changed the Secaucas Ethernet address per your advice.) The Gloucester router was never up/up for the Serial Interface - however, I have it up/up for the Ethernet Interface.
