Hello All,

I am in search for a reason and/or fix as to why my Exchange 20003 server DNS entry on my DC disappears every Friday morning? We have to go back in and manually enter it back in and we cannot seem to find out the exact root of the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.....

Thanks in advance!

One thing to check is there is a setting to "clean" up the dynamic dns entries that Windows thinks it isn't using. I am certainly not a DDNS guy but I have researched links about DDNS scavenging, a advanced topic.

Here is a link that explains it, but do a search for "ddns scavenging" and you will find more:

Okay I will givce that a shot and see what I can find.... Thanks! I will give credit if it works...... I will post my results....

Have you watched the machine when this happens? I know of a person who looked into a database problem where the dns entries disappeared every night. Owners couldn't figure it out. He went up to where the server was at the time it usually disappeared and found out a new cleaning crew had been hired. They were unplugging the server to vacum every night, and by the time the morning IT crew came in, the dns entries were starting to re-build themselves. He just told them not to unplug the servers anymore, put a lock on the upc, and the problem was solved. Good luck.

Ha Ha! Wow, sounds like they had a serious problem with cleaning people! Who would have guessed....

Our servers are in a secured area, so that couldn't be it. I wish it was that simple.... Thanks though....

Okay, the scavenging is set to 1 hour and just to add more info to this thread, the Exchange Server is 2003 on a Win 2003 Server box and the DC with DNS installed is a Win2K box. The DNS server Zones are set to an Active Directory Integrated zones.

I figured if the Scavenging was to process every 7 days or so, this would make sense, but it has always been set to scavenge every hour.

Any more ideas?

Thanks again!
