Two days ago my DELETE key started moving up two lines and deleting three characters instead of just deleting what I had intended to. I figured the keyboard had gone bad so I substituted another and the same thing happened. So then I thought perhaps the ps2 port was bad so I hooked up a USB keyboard and it did exactly the same thing. I downloaded a keyboard testing program and all the keys except the delete key seem to be correctly recognized (I am using the keyboard right now). So next I scanned for viruses and spyware and while it found some spyware and removed it, nothing changed. So, now I am looking for someone who might have some insights into this problem. I really need my delete key!
Thanks for any advice you can offer. David Abineri

Since you've changed the hardware have you checked the software you are using?

The answer is "42

Sorry, forgot to mention that the problem occurs in Word, Notepad, Visual Basic, Writing an email. It seems to be software independent. Except for WINDOWS which of course is behind everything. I did remove the keyboard from the hardware manager and let it reinstall but this did not affect the situation.

"42" may be the answer!

Try a different keyboard, first off. That sounds like a short in your keyboard.

Thanks, I will try this. I am the only one using this computer, however.

Sorry for wasting your time! After doing the HijackThis and looking at the log, I was reminded that I have QuickKeys and, when I looked, there was an inadvertent macro assigned to the Delete key.

Thanks for the responses! David Abineri
