I see this error 8003in my NT 4 sp6 event log repeatedly. The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer 2004-11 that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_El90x1. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.

This server (network) had been down for about 4 days due to a disaster. No errors before that. Also, the machine 2004-11 has not been powered on since I shut it down yesterday. Errors still appearing. Again, this was not an issue before the network went down or I'd look at the router...

If you're running WINS, you can easily check who the master browser is supposed to be by showing the database.
The last machine to win a browser electin will be regarded as master until a new election is forced. You can force the election by rebooting your server or by just stopping and restarting the "Computer Browser" service on the server.

Not entirely trye thelaffster. If you don't have a DEDICATED Master Browser declared, (IsDomainMaster=True) then your Master Browser will move around. This is why machines vanish and reappear from your browser. It can take up to 2 hours for a master browser to find all it's computers on the local network. Restarting the service on your server will "force" the master browser to be on that computer because it will "force" an election. If no machine responds that it's the Master Browser during the election period, then yes, that machine will become the Master Browser, until another election is forced, hence, the next server that is rebooted...
