Event ID 681 Error Code 3221225581

In checking my Event Viewer, I have noticed that error code 3221225581 often appears along with Event ID 681. It has happened on different days with a variety of different users.

I know that Event ID 681 is a login failure. I also know that this particular error code does not pertain to either a bad login name or a bad password. I have seen the error codes for a login name failure and a password failure. Neither of them matches this error code. When this error code comes up, the login failure must be happening for some other reason. I'd like to know what the reason is.

I have searched Microsoft's knowledgebase and the Internet for error code 3221225581. I searched using both Google and Yahoo. I only get 2 matches, and both of them are in French!

Does anyone know what this particular error code means?

When you attempt to log on to a Microsoft Windows 2000-based domain, you may receive the following error message:

Microsoft Networking

The domain password you supplied is not correct, or access to your logon server has been denied.
Also, event ID 681 (account logon failure) and event ID 529 (unknown user name or bad password) may be logged in the Security log on the server.

You must restart your computer before a successful logon can occur

This problem can occur because the Windows 2000-based server rejects your logon password when the client computer does not correctly de-allocate an internal structure that is used to track the logon session. The client attempts to reuse the expired encryption key that is passed to it by the server during the original logon. Microsoft has a fix for this.

Thank you for your reply. I also saw some fixes from Microsoft that related to problems stemming from Event 681, but I have been reluctant to use them because I didn't see any of them identify themselves as a fix for when the error code 3221225581 appears. I saw fixes for Event 681 error codes that were related to bad passwords, bad user IDs, etc. This code never appeared in any of the tables.

The fact that neither a search of Microsoft's knowledgebase nor a search of the Internet for that error code results in anything I can use makes me think that this one is "out of the norm". That's what makes me so curious. I suspect that this code may pertain to some sort of connection problem - or some sort of hardware problem.

I understand that re-booting will stop the error message from appearing, but until I know the root cause of the problem, I can't prevent it from happening again.
