I keep getting event IDs 6008 almost every morning on my Windows 2000 Server (the server runs Exchange 2000 and Veritas Backup Exec 8.5). The error message is "The previous system shutdown on HH:MM:SS on MM/DD/YY was unexpected". This happens most mornings in between 3am and 7am, usually between 5 and 6. It might have something to do with the backups, but I'm really not sure at this point. The Exchange backups run from 1am - 4am and the results of the backup do not show up in Backup Exec when the 6008 event ID's occur, even if the unexpected shutdown happens after the Exchange backup would be finished. The Exchange backups do succeed, because the data is being backed up to the tape.
Any ideas?
How can I make the server automatically send me an email when event ID 6008's occur? I know it can be done but I forget how.
