I'd do a search here for this but the search function is temporarily down.

My Win2K DC has been crashing on me for the last 4 or 5 days continously. It could happen after 5 minutes of booting up or after 23 hours, but in the last week it hasn't lasted more than 23 hours.

According to the log, the crash times have all been when there would have been no useage at all on it (Nobody was home at that time, or we were asleep)

According to the MS Support site it's a browser error (The one responsible for compiling and maintaining a list of Network resources) and I should contact my network Administrator for help. Well ....... I am the Network Admin :D

This morning I rebooted it and logged back on and when I left for work it seemed ok, but most likely will crash by the time I get home. Anyone got ideas?

P.S. Latest Service pack applied.

First, hearing that is happen when the computer is in silence make me to think that could be related with power control. ACPI, control panel power stuff. Power saving schemes, BIOS. So, try to check and disable them. See what is happen.
As about the browser error, I don't think it is. But anytime you can disable the master role for this if you want. But, try first method with power control. Gia Betiu

I should have mentioned they were disabled already. I always disable alot of that stuff automatically when I setup a new computer. Screen Saver is set to blank (Instead of that dreaded Off) after 15 minutes of inactivity.

I just remembered too that whenever I notice that it has crashed, I've noticed that the harddrive is going nuts (Panel light is flashing like crazy) Holding power button for even 15 seconds doesn't turn it off so I have to flip the switch.

The PSU should be ok but I'll check it anyways, as it's only 6 months old and is a 450 watt Enermax Whisper. MCSE in training.
Currently I've gone through the following books:
70-210 Win2K Professional
70-215 Win2K Server

does the server give warning that its shutting down, for example, 'please save all work as the server is shutting down', or something like that? if so, its probably a security rollup issue. look up 318650 on technet.

if not, then it sounds like a hardware issue, possibly HD. is the drive mirrored? if so, try breaking the mirror, or booting to the mirror. If not, image the drive, copy the image to a second drive and try running that. I don't think its the PS, they tend to be all or nothing.... hope this helps.

I'm not sure about any warning as the only time I was there when it happened was the first time I started having this prob. and then it was a BSOD. I of course just rebooted and didn't pay any attention to the error as it was the first time it happened.

It's only a single HDD currently (Haven't had time to actually mirror it yet (Bad me! Bad!))

I've just done the uninstall and reinstall of the SPRU as well as a couple other security updates as well. Hopefully that will give me some stability as one of the updates gave showed me the usual (Top right corner when getting into the System after password entry) "Configuring... " and one of them said something about Browser but I didn't notice it until just before it finished.

Tnx for the help. MCSE in training.
