event id: 2505

Hi everyone,

I keep on getting this error meesage from the eventlog:

Event ID: 2505
"The server could not bind to the transport computer name because another computer on the network has the same name. The server could not start."

This is my DC with AD on it and it has SP4 installed. Everytime I get this error message it freezes up my server and my users are unable to access it.

I've check and there is not computer on the network with the same name.

Any idea on what might be causing this would be appreciated.

Check your WINS and DNS for duplicate names / IPs. The last time I saw this problem was that the WINS had a static entry of the server (which had a static IP) and there was either an IP change or a second network card installed.

I have 3 NIC on my server but only one is enable at the current time but I will check the WINS and DNS again.
