I have been having this problem and now its beginning to annoy me. The Primary DC which holds almost all the roles except for infrastructure master is also the licensing server for the entire AD/domain network. I don't know whats going on but after a while it just seems to lose all its licenses and i start getting these errors...

Event Type: Error
Event Source: LicenseService
Event Category: None
Event ID: 202
Date: 10/9/2006
Time: 2:02:55 PM
User: N/A
Computer: HQDC1
Description:
The product Windows Server is out of licenses. Use Licensing from the Administrative Tools folder for more information on which users are out of compliance and how many licenses should be purchased.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

I dont understand why it keeps losing licenses. There are only 2 DCs in the network which is more than enough considering theres only 12 clients. I have it set for client/device cals instead of server cals and it is the only licensing server between the 2 sites. I can put the licenses back and be good for a few weeks then they disappear again.

Any Ideas?

Hello
Use License Manager from the Administrative Tools folder for more information on which users are out of compliance and how many licenses should be purchased. This may guide you in the right direction

Thats not the problem. It loses ALL the licenses. Its not a problem of which users dont have licenses its the server losing them. I can put in licenses and it will be fine for several weeks then they disappear like i never even entered them. It doesnt even show a record of the ones i put in weeks ago.

I am having the same problem, after rebooting server, all the purchased license info is gone. I re-enter purchased licenses and reboot-gone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Has Microsoft made a change in R2 to enable the License Logging service? It is disabled by default in Windows 2k3. In my opinion it shouldn't ever be used (set to disable on every server). That service hasn't worked correctly since at least NT 4, and has never actually enforced licenses, just reported on them. You're better off keeping track of them in Excel or a database.
