Hi:

I have been getting this event id error 1106, "the printer could not be installed" on my server recently....
I have search the net for the information and obtainted the following answers below to solve this, but it doesn't work cause my Windows printer mapping is not check in the 1st place..

If you get these errors on servers where printer mapping is not needed, open the Terminal Server Configuration, and click connections. Right click "RDP-Tcp" and choose properties. Select the "Client Settings" tab and check off "Windows printer mapping".

Any one encounter this problem before and have solve it, please help...

Thanks

I have the same problem but I was told by a someone that it's not that important. In fact what's happening is that when you connect using Terminal services from your local PC to a host pc, windows is trying to map your local printer to your Terminal session enabling you to print from remote to your local printer. For example, you have a HP932 at home connected your PC. You connect from your home PC to your host server. If you wish to print from an application inside your terminal session, you can have the print job "rerouted" or redirected onto your local HP932 printer. An error is reported when your host server doesn't have the drivers for your local printer. You can install those drivers on your host server to avoid those errors in the logs or you can like you mentionned disable your terminal service application (Remote desktop connection) from attempting to map your printer onto the host server. Hope that explains it and that I understood what someone told me.

Actually looking at the 'Client Settings' tab it reads 'Disable the following' which would mean you have to check 'Windows printer mapping' if you want to turn it off, not the other way around. Or am I misreading that.

I followed yesti's instructions and it cleared up my Terminal Services printer install errors in my sys logs. Thank you yesti.

no problem, why they word it like that is beyond me. must have been lost in translation or something...
