Hello everyone,

I received the error listed above in the Application Event Log yesterday and have only seen the error once. I did some research and found only a couple items pertaining to this error. One of the refers to a SP1 issue (which does not apply), and the second refers to a possible corrupt page in the database.

Background:

Windows 2000 Standard server - SP4 - all current hotfixes and critical updates applied.
Exchange 2000 Enterprise - SP3 - all current hotfixes applied.

Two and a half weeks ago I applied the April 2004 Exchange Hotfix and some critical updates to the 2000 server. Shortly thereafter a problem with the Information store occured where the Information Store would hang with an event ID of 7011 or terminate with an event ID of 7031. I opened a call to Microsoft and after checking my environment they recommended applying the latest Exchange hotfix that released at the end of July. I applied the hotfix on Friday, 20 August and the problem of the Information Store hanging or terminating appear to have stopped. Then for the first time I saw this event:

An error occurred on database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (ServerName)".
Function name or description of problem: SLINK::EcUpdate
Error: 0x8004010f

Questions:

Is this a monitor and see what happens?
What is the level of severity?

Any help would be appreciated,

Run the eseutil /g to verify the the database is corrupted. If so then you can attempt to recover it using the other eseutil's. But make sure your backups are good before you do any of the eseutil's.

Another bit of info to try:

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

Hello destinysdream,

Thanks for the input - will look at doing an eseutil /g when I get a time frame to dismount the store. I will post back when I find something. I was hoping to avoid doing this step because of the time required.

Hello xmsre,

I did apply the Hotfix and that seemed to take care of the 7011 and 7031 events. I apologise for rambling on about the problem, which might have caused some confusion.

Thanks,

Wyz

Certain versions of the rollup have issues. If they were perfect, there would be no reason to issue a newer version. When in doubt, check the fix list of later versions.
