I have todat started to see errors in the application log on my Exchange server. Nothing in the configuration has changed on this server in months.
The errors come in pairs - a 4098 followed by a 12071. They say that the mails hadn't been delivered to the Exchange server because thay have exceeded the hop count, and that messages may be looping due to the Exchange configuration.
Based on this, I have a number of questions.
1. Where do I configure the hop count on the server to increase it ?
2. How do you create a looping configuration within Exchange ? Especially if you only have one Exchange server ?
3. Two of the mails which crop up in the event log are from addresses within our mail domain.
I'm very confused. Unfortunately, there is no Exchange expert within the company and we're having to try and work this out as we go along. I can't see a logical explanation for what we're seeing.
Any ideas/suggestions/help would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks, in advance.
Rob
