Hi....

I have a home based network running through a Broadband router. I was wondering if there was such a thing as a hardrive which connects via ethernet. So basically I can plug it into my router and all computers on the network can access it. Secondly how can i change whether remote computers have access to the "\\computername\admin$" share.

Thanks Simon

Tec TV just did a segnemt on that subjest. Do a search there for so good info.
I saw it about 3-6 weeks ago, I think it was the screen savers segnemt.

The only downside to the NetDisk was that only one user at a time could have write access. I see today that they have updated (beta) drivers to allow all users to share read/write access.

USB performance seems to match Ethernet, either direct to a computer or through a router. You don't get the same numbers with 802.11b wireless, but if you have 802.11g wireless setup, it's as good as wired.

The NetDisk is probably the cheapest ethernet solution, followed by building a cheap system for use as only a file server. The true network attached storage solutions (NAS) start at ~$1000 and up, but are designed for serious speed.
