I have the following recurring Event Viewer warning:

Intel(R) PRO/1000 T Server Adapter PROBLEM: Could not establish link. ACTION: Check network cable. ACTION: Run PROSet diagnostics.

However it has nothing to do with the network cable. Furthermore we have uninstalled and reinstalled the network card. The only change is that back in April, we renamed all domain controllers after demoting with dcpro...ever since we have had the problem. Now it is too late to wipe the slate clean. I must fix this. Problem is registered in Event Viewer only upon new start of the server.

THANKS for a quick response.

Hi, Thanks. Although this link refers to the exact same problem that I am having, the remediy seems to be gateway specific.... also I do no have Intel 82544-EI based XT Gigabit Adapter rather Intel(R) PRO/1000 XT Server Adapter. The remedy also said that it is only relevant to a 930 Series server...no idea what this is. Do you have further suggestions?

I gave you an example. The entire Intel PRO series adapter have this same issue from Windows NT through Windows 2003. Get a new driver.

And make sure you install the Pro Set II utility to configure the adapter.

If you look at the driver set there should be a utility to completely remove the older adapter drivers. It is recommended that you do so.

Updating the driver worked like a charm. I went to Intel's download website, input the model for the Intel driver that we have here, input the operating system and got to the driver download. We were using an extremely old version. After installing the driver and restarting the server, the warning message in Event Viewer went away! YIPPEE! :) Thanks all!

PS: Exact location
