I have a site with CM3 s8720 server in location 1. Its IP Connect and the IPSIs are in a control lan A and B which are private ip addresses. Now we need to add an ESS server in a different location soon but I am wondering how will the IPSIs contact the ESS server in the event of a failure in the main servers if the addressing is in a private IP address.

Hi MrJedi

when the ESS server is administering hisself by the mainserver. The ip-adress of the ESS server is automaticly distributed to the IPSI boards. You have to take care of the IP-routes between the ESS-Main server and IPSI-ESS server. check the default gateways of the ipsi boards and the static routes on your main/ess server.

also take a look on the route-tables routeprotocol (rip, ospf, eigrp etc..)on the routers. When using static routes on the routers be sure that there can be a connection between the ess and ipsi boards by a failure of the mainserver location.

Goodluck.
