Hi;

Does any one know why when I try to bring up one stand alone sub-report in the crystal designer I get the following message.

The instruction at 0x77cb3e7 Reference Memory at "0x0205119d" Memory could not be written.

when I use interdev debugger it points to CRW32.exe has a access violation.

This happen with just this one report.
Im using crystal 8 with repotion and options set to covert nulls to default. with a sql procedure.

I've, recreated the report under another name and the same thing happens.

My other reports run as designed.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this.

Thanks
Dave

Uh-ooooh.

What does a stand alone subreport mean??? A subreport is either embedded in a main report or it isn't a subreport.

I trust this isn't a matter of different versions of CR, either the report is a different version, or you have multiple versions installed.

This might mean a corrupt report or Crystal install to me, if you have a previous version, try it with that.

If you have a later version of CR, try opening the report with that. You might also make sure that you have the latest patches applied, and that your system is sound (try opening it on another box).

If you can get it to open, the problem is just when you try to execute it, the following article should prove helpful:

Thanks sysapsevampire;

The report is a stand alone report or main report that can also be used as a subreport.

I recive this error when I try to do a print preview in the crystal designer.

I recreated the same report with the same procedure and all the same fields with a different name.

I worked once then after I closed the report and reopen it produce the same error message as before when doing a print preview an every time sents then.

If I use the debugger it goes to attached to process
[464] C:\Program Files\Seagate Software\Crystal Reports\crw32.exe

This points to Unhandled exception at 0x77fcb608 in crw32.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000038.

I'm stiil in the dark with this one!!!!!!!

Thanks
Dave

Do you have the latest patches installed?

I use lots of SP's, just make sure that you're using the proper connectivity or Crystal won't work right.

The proper connectivity is based on the type of database, if you're using SQL Server 2000, make sure that you use OLE DB, previous versions are supported using the CR ODBC or the Native SQL Server connectivity.

I'm also suspicious of the SP, perhaps there's something invalid there?

I have gotten this error for a number of odd reasons...

bad database dll's, corrupt reports, funky responses from the database..

Do you have other reports with subreports running from the same DB?

Does the main report and sub report use the same datasource? (sometimes combined variations can cause this... its weird I know)

HAve you tried placing the subreport in a different report.. does it run okay then?

Have you tried removing links between reports and entering the subreports parameters on prompt (not a good choice if the subreport is called repeatedly)

HAve you tried placing a different subreport in the main report? Does that run okay.

Does your subreport (that also stands alone) also have a subreport in it? Crystal won't always yell at you for this, but it isn't allowed.

If you are using NT/2000/XP the problem may not actually be CR. See thread621-27217. James P. Cottingham

Once we back out the last update crystal patches the problem when away.

Thanks to every body.
