boot record from hdd: ok
<minuite pause>
type the name of the command interperetor )e.g., c:windows\command.com

c>

i type c:\windows\command.com and it takes me back to the c> prompt, i cant boot off of the floppy, i loaded setup default and cleared cmos and nothing, is it a bad board, or hdd, anything

thanks in advance, will

Is the bios set to seek the floppy on boot up? Is the boot sequence set to boot first from A ? If so you should be able to boot from a recovery floppy, which will have it's own command interpreter ( command.com). If you can get it to boot from the floppy you can try to replace the windows command.com which may have become corrupt or deleted somehow (think virus). What happened prior to this problem?

ok, yes the bios is set to boot off of floppy first, just trust me all that has been checked, im going to have to say no virus because we update every computer as new ide's come out, but i guess it could happen, no i cant boot off a floppy, any floppy, a win98 or anything, ill try booting off our sophos antivirus cd and run a scan, the night before she turned her comp off, and in the morning this is what happened, no boot whatsoever, so, im stuck, like i said ill try the virus thing but other than that im stuck

1)Insert "BootDisk" to the floppy. From "A:\>" type "sys c:" <enter> and restart.
2)Next from "A:\>" type "scandisk c:" <enter>, "scanreg /fix".
(Remove the "BootDisk" and restart)

i cant boot off a floppy, i can only get to a c> prompt and nothing else, yes c> NOT c:\

Unplug the DVD/CD-ROM, soundcard etc. check your BIOS settins (IDE auto detect and "none" for "CD" devices, for "third boot device" choose "LS120" or anything except "CD-ROM"). Also double-check ALL power/data connectors...

ahhhhh still nothing, hmm, all that is plugged in is floppy and hdd, no cards video is onboard, unfortunately, it searches the floppy but says no boot record, well ive tried 5 yes 5 different floppys, 2 of them newly created,

-Ok, check a different FD-cable...and PSU (if availble)
-Set HD to "Secondary Master" (check the jumpers) or "Primary Slave"
-Replace IDE cable
-Check with other HD (if availble)
-Also replace the DIMM (if availble)
(... or maybe it's faulty HD/Mobo...)

yes, im doing that now, i just replaced the cables and will boot it up, ill try the other stuff too, its all available that will be no problem

thank you

It is possible that you have a corrupt bios, the normal fix for this is to download a BIOS update and reflash using a boot floppy, but you could also make a CDR bootable and run it from there,
Have you tried booting from your Windows install CD-ROM?
if it will not then suspect a motherboard failure, but try a new floppy drive and cable first
