Hi All,

I keep getting DNS errors in my event log, but I don't have DNS configured on my server. The errors always seem to end in "DNS server unable to interpret format." The error seems to respond to "Registration of the DNS record ..."

Any suggestions.

Aloha,

James

Windows is looking for the DNS servers to register with, like WINS. This is part of Active Directory requirements, If you do not use DNS or AD then it is safe to ignore this. There may be a way to disable it but I don't know of it.

If you have Windows2000 Server and Active Directory (Unless you are not participating in a Domain) then I would think you would need a DNS Server. Active Directory requires you to have DNS for it to work properly.

Can you explain how your server is setup? Is this server part of a Domain? If it is not the first server then you need to make sure your DNS settings point to the Active Directories first domain controller which would be the DNS server for the domain.
