Hey all,

I had a hard drive go bad on me, and I had to stick both the old drive and a new one in a completely different computer. I then copied the contents of the old drive (all of it. Tried Ghost imaging and cloning but because the old drive was going bad, couldn't pull off a good image) overwriting the clean install of XP on the new drive. Neither the old drive nor the new drive were booted, it was a third drive that was the master in the other computer that actually booted. Took out the new drive and put it in the original computer. It booted fine. Outlook starts fine. When I try any other Office 2003 program, i get the following error "An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Please run Setup and select "Repair..." to restore this application". This error occurs shortly after the windows installer message box opens.

So I get the Office 2003 installation that office was originally installed from. I put it in and run setup. It copies a few files to the computer, then gives me the following error. "This package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installler patch package." Then the application opens and appears to work fine.
I also get the same error if I try to uninstall Office using add/remove programs.

I have briefly looked on the microsoft web site for help, but cannot find any. If anyone has had experience with this error, I would appreciate any help. If you need any more clarification on what happened, I will be happy to provide it.

Thanks in advance.

I ended up finding the exact error from microsoft's website (after about 2 hours of digging). It said to use the Microsoft Installer Clean Up Utility. I have done so, but now I am having trouble getting the computer to start on the new drive. Gets to windows blue screen with "Microsoft Windows" on it and sits. I have seen many posts from people with this error using ghost, so I am going to see if I can get any ideas from them.

Thanks
