error trying to install 16 bit programs on a computer upgraded to XP

hello,

i have been trying to add a UMAX scanner to a Compaq presario that was upgraded from ME to XP with service pack II. I get a message saying "unable to install 16 bit program"

UMAX support said not there problem? Microsoft?

Any input on this would be great!

i'm trying to install UMAX/VISTASCAN X software that would support multiple types of scanners for XP. the installation procedure is to disconnect scanner before installing the software. however can't get any further because XP will not allow it.

the software i'm trying to install is the driver\s for the scanner.

Hi, did you check the info under :

Windows XP users: A Windows XP Patch is required. Use the form above to check for Windows XP compatibility. All UMAX parallel port scanners (i.e., Astra 300P, 600P, 610P and 1210P) are not supported under XP.

on the UMAX site?

If it is a driver set for the XP, it should not be a 16bit program..Did you download it or use the CD?

this was purchased from UMAX for a 600s which i beleive is suported by XP.

It just might be that your download was corrupt and needs downloading again. Click on the properties and see if it looks like a genuine file.

Are you doing this as an Administrator user rather than a limited user?
