I deleted an OU in my AD by accident. I did a resore of the database via Backup Exec. I then when into the server under the correct boot up procedure. When I do the authoritative restore I restore just the subtree. I type out the path and get an error. Error 80070057 parsing input - illegal syntax.

Here's the authoritive restore process:

Restart in AD restore mode [F8]
Restore system state - using backup
Do not reboot after restore
Start | Run | ntdsutil

type ntdsutil.exe authoritive restore
type restore subtree ou=your_OU,DC=your_domain,DC=your_com

Is this what you did?

I rebooted after I did the system resore (via Veritas Documentation). I was also wondering about the syntax. I notice you put the underscore for the space. Do you need to do that?

You need to replace your_OU with your OU name, your_domain with your domain details etc.

Example: restore subtree ou=sales,DC=contoso,DC=com
