Hi,

I am running Oracle 8i and keep getting the following error every time I try to connect to an instance on the server.
Code:
ERROR:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
What do I do to resolve this?

I have tried rebooting the server (Win2k Svr), but nothing changed, I have shut down the services (Listener, the instances, and other oracle services) then restarted them but still get the error.

Can someone please tell me exactly what the problem is here and how I get it working again.

EXTRA INFO:
Things were working, then I made a change in the init pfile, more specifily the cursors. I changed it from 300 to 30 to test something, it is then that the problems started, so I changed it back to 300, but it is still happening.

Thank you - in advance...
Charlie

In your SQLNET.ora file what is the value of SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES?

flstf

It is:...
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)

but this has not been changed, only the number of cursor in the init.ora file in the pfile folder was changed; and this has since been changed back to the default 300.

Have I killed it? =o)
Is there a doctor in the house?

Sorry that I haven't replied, I've been away on business.

Try Setting SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NONE) in the sqlnet.ora file. I do not believe it has anything to do with changing the number of cursors. I experienced the same problems and this did fix the problem. I believe it is a bug in Oracle.

Hope this helps,
