We are getting the following error (or similar) on every page in our Quark Express 5 document when attempting to produce a PDF Distiller file to send to the printers.

We have similar errors intermittently before, and have found that removing text superimposed on graphic images, or changing fonts "magically" cures the problem. But we have only ever found this experimentally ... we have NEVER been able to determine the logic behind the error.

The error occurs ONLY when we send the fonts to the PDF output - which the printers require! The fonts we are using do all exist on our PC, and we *have* used them successfully before - so we are none the wiser there.

We need an answer asap because we are running out of time to produce the PDFs for printing!

If it helps I also have the screen prints of the [Print] options and the '.joboptions' Distiller parameters file.

This is the error message file we get trying to create PDF for page 1 of the document.
QUESTION: How can we work out which item/picture etc. on the page is causing the problem?
QUESTION: What exactly IS the problem with that item?

Many thanks in advance

Just a couple of troubleshooting questions first.
Do you have bothe the screen and printer elements of that font, or is it true type?

Have you tried postscripting from page 2 onwards? to see if occurs anywhere else in the document

Marcus

Hi Marcus,

I have tried several pages. We always do individual pages to PDF - except the centre spread, which also fails for same reason.

The principal fonts in use are Arial (various) and Frutiger 55 Roman which is shown in Windows as an "Open Type" font rather than "TrueType".

Please remember that the problem is more complex than just that a certain font has been used. This Frutiger font has been used successfully in other documents from Quark to PDF Distiller.

As to whether we have both screen and printer elements - no idea: font is just 'installed' in Windows.

Thanks.
