A contingent made a document in Word 95 back in 1995, and is long gone. Now another user needs to update the document and is using Word 97. When she tries to open it, she gets the following error: "This document cannont be edited because it contains a read-only embedded font.". It will then open, but you can't edit/save anything. I tried opening it in my copy of Word XP too with the same error. Anyone ran into this before and can offer help? Thanks. Darrell Mozingo

mozingod,

Stupid suggestion, because I am sure you already tried it.

Instead of trying to openning it to edit it, have you openned the "offending file" and then tried to select all and copy/paste into a new doc?

Might loose some formatting, but that might get you past this.

Just a suggestion.

I feel quite stupid now, but I hadn't tried that and it worked pefectly :) It even copied the header/footer information. Thanks for the suggestion... some times the easiest solution is over-looked. Darrell Mozingo

moningod,

Glad it worked.. Forest and trees. I do that to myself ALLLLL the time and thank goodness I have folks that see the tree while I am looking at the forest..

Wasn't positive this would work, so it was a SWAG.

mozingod,

Sorry for the typo on your name on my earlier response. Mea culpa!
