I have a user with a win 2K PIII running Office 97 (Municipalities only upgrade when they have to!) When ever she loads access she gets a window that says "can't find the database you specified or you didn't specify a database at all." then it tells me "Specify a valid database name in the command line, and include a path if neccessary so that (big blank space here) can find the application."

I uninstalled and reinstalled access
Uninstalled and reinstalled Office
Compared the command line to a working access on another machine.
Compared the registry of the two machines.
Tried a simple voodoo ritual (Boy do I hate the smell of burning hair.)
I didn't reload windows however, that was my next step.

All to no avail. I simply can't get access to load in a simple blank database. I

Any help would be great.
Thanks
Mark

You talk about a 'command line'. Are you able to start up access at all; ie. through the normal start menu, without any command line arguments; it sounds like you may have a special shortcut set up, which is where the failure is occuring. Please elaborate.

When Access starts, I get an access screen with File, View, And Help across the top. No icon buttons and then that popup with the error I described with the only choice of OK. When I click on OK it shuts access down. It is almost like it is running the access runtime program looking for a file to load.

It does it from the Start, Run command line, my computer, and windows explorer. That was my first thought as well, that the shortcut was messed up. But I am trying to load access directly.

Try one more thing before you reload windows.

Uninstall Access again.

Then remove all entries from the Registry.
(Do this ONLY if you are confident and know what your are

The REGISTRY -- It's not just for Breakfast any more.

Make sure that Access was completely uninstalled.

Reinstall Access

That's my take on it. I'm Your Huckleberry!
