Hi,
am writing some code behind a form with standard data entry controls and every time an onclick event is fired i get 'error communicating with activex controls or ole server' - ne ideas why?

That happened to me as well when I created the form through a wizard and added controls and code. It didn't go away until I remade the form from scratch (and NOT using the wizard).

You may solve the problem by deleting the button and its code, compacting the database, restarting Access and re-create the button.

Don't forget to back up the database first.

Good luck
