Error message "Invalid object name"

On a SQL 2000 server, users from their desktops are getting this error message when trying to update information to the database:

"[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'usernametbl'." (username being whoever is trying to update information).

Is there an object in the database named <username>tbl?

What is the default db for these users and what database does the ODBC connection point to?

or
<username>.tbl?

is username the object owner or is is part of the tablename?
