After booting, just after the desk top appears:

"windows registry repair pro"

component comdlg32.ocx or one of its dependancies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

This is on my friends computer, she has recently installed SP2 (yes, well I know that she obviously didnt), not sure if this is relevant, I ran registry mechanic and removed " bad stuff", I have run this countless times and it has never once caused a problem, is this a genuine windows message? I would guess that the machine is clean from infection as I have run norton, adaware and spybot. Also I reinstalled the graphics card drivers as she had a flicker on the screen which the reinstall has resolved.

Any one seen this before, do you know what it means?

Thanks

Is "windows registry repair pro" a third party program (Registry tool) installed on the computer?

"comdlg32.ocx" is installed and/or used by a common SP2 Slipstreaming program. Does that ring any bells?

It is also a genuine Microsoft file usually located in System32 and an ActiveX Control.

is that exactly what I need to do to resolve the problem?

I pressume as you know how to fix it you know what the problem is, would you mind telling me what the problem is just so I know.

Thanks

The CommonDialog control provides a standard set of dialog boxes for operations such as opening and saving files, setting print options, and selecting colors and fonts. It is part of the Visual Basic runtimes. What essentially happens is that you install an application that replaces this control with a version that is less recent than expected by another application, and leaves the registry entries a mess. Or, If you install a shareware program and then uninstall the program, you run the risk of corrupting the registry for Visual Basic. This is because when you install the program, it may replace an older OCX with a newer version, and when you uninstall it, it will replace the newer OCX with the older version, but without fixing the registry.

hello,

I have run what you seggested and i receive

loadlibrary ("comdlg32.ocx") failed - the specified module could not be found

any ideas?

nice one thanks,

how do I install the vb runtimes library? I have looked on the web and all I can find is updates for it. I have followed the link so am i right in saying that I place that file in the directory specified after having installed the library?

then Start, Run, regsvr32 /i %windir%\system32\COMDLG32.OCX

anticipated thanks
