error login sql server

Now i'm using windows 98, sql server, personal web server and coldfusion for web programming.
when I tried to register sql server, show message "general network error", read your network documentation.
what I should do to configurate it? what network should I use ?

Try using TCP/IP protocol rather than Named Pipes. This can be set for the client using the Client Network Utility in the SQL Server program group. Robert Bradley
