Hi,

I've got an issue with an XP client logging on to a single server Windows 2003 domain. The domain controller is called lothdc1.

One client is experiencing problems logging on. I think others have been affected intermittently too, but only one user is complaining about it at present.

The error message she receives is:-

Windows cannot copy file \\lothdc1\profiles\sstephens\My Documents\My Scans\hppscan4.pdf to location C:\Documents and Settings\sstephens\My Documents\My Scans\hppscan4.pdf. Possible causes of this error include network problems or insufficient security rights. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

DETAIL - Error performing inpage operation.

I have tried numerous things, including making her a domain admin to rule out the possibility of a permissions issue. This made no difference, so it suggests it's a network, or possibly a group policy issue.

The last thing I tried was setting the speed of the NIC in the PC to 10mbps duplex. After I changed this the client logged in OK.

Any idea why, or was it just pure coincidence?

Thanks for your help, and I apologise if I've posted in the wrong forum.

Cheers,
Toby

Did you check the setting of the port on the switch? Was it set to auto-select, full, or half duplex?

Thanks a lot for the response Joey - That's a good idea.

The network consists of a blue Netgear switch which is connected to a Cisco layer 2 switch on a VLAN. Our internet connection is provided through the VLAN by Regus (serviced offices).

I don't know whether you can change the duplex settings on the Netgear, I'll have to check. There is the possibility that there is packet loss occurring across the switch. Can anyone recommend any good websites for instructions on checking for network collisions etc?

Thanks a lot.
