Hello,

I have a Web/DB server that I want to join to my current domain (Which right now only consists of a single DC/DNS server. Just adding one computer at a time.)

When I try to add my web server ("web") to my domain controller ("ns2"), it generates the following error:

The following error occurred validating the name "pintesoft.com".
This condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. For information about troubleshooting common DNS lookup problems, please see the following Microsoft Web site:
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

I checked out that web site, but didn't find the problem...of course that was most likely due to human error I'm sure.

Does anyone know what could be causing this problem to not let me do this? I can ping both computers, there is communication. In fact, the web server already registered itself into the DNS server, but I can't join the domain for some reason. (I'm on Internal IP's)

This definitely points to a DNS issue.
Can you ping the DC by name?
Try running dcdiag - it gives a lot of good info.

Hi Christine, thanks for responding! :)

When I ping the DC from the web server, it replies with the internal IP address (192.168.1.2), however, when I ping the DC from the DC-itself, it replies with the public IP outside my router. (Probably because I directed the web server to my name server to use as it's DNS source, and pointed to the ISP's name servers on my DC for its DNS source. Do you think I should change the DC to use itself as it's DNS source alone?)

I'm not familiar with dcdiag (sorry, I'm a bit behind all the professionals on here, lol.) It didn't seem to be part of the command prompt or a feature I could use from start->run. Where could I find that feature/program?

Thanks again for your help...I really appreciate it!

Anyone else have any ideas? Or would looking at the DNS file help?
