error in service pack 4 installation

hello everyone...
I am trying to install service pack 4 on win 2k pro, and it keeps failing to install. I have the service pack on a cd and also have tried downloading it directly from microsoft. It downloads all the files, then just stops the installation soon after it starts. It does not give an error message, it just stops. Does anyone know why this would be happening? Its driving me crazy!!!!

Any messages/errors in event viewer?

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

There are no errors in the event viewer that have to do with installation....any other ideas?

Have you terminated all background processes, checked for virus/spyware?
