error in group policy

When I try to edit group policy I get the error message that "the domain controlloer is not available. You may cancel this operation for this session or retry using one of the following domain controller choices etsc" I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling File and printer sharing as Microsoft suggest but no joy any suggestions?

Dave - How are you logging onto the DC? Can you run GPEDIT from the command line?
Let's break it down and maybe we can find out what's going on...
