When I try to dail into my ISP I keep getting error 650..dailup networking couldnt make a connection to the computer you are dailing into..after viewing the log for the modem I see that all the response requests are ok and it even connects at 41000 bps or so then it says unknown error control and unknown or missing data compression and then the modem closes....I checked the advanced settings for the modem and they are right what is causing it to disconnect? thanks

sys
modem: lucent PCI win modem
mobo: soyo dragon ultra kt333
mem: 256 DDR

Go to Start, Settings,Control Panel, Dial-Up Networking. Right click on the dialer you use to connect to your ISP. Select Properties, Networking, See if the enable software compression is checked under the TCP/IP setting see if the use IP header compression is checked. Some ISP will change settings without thelling there users. If this does work you will need to call you ISP for the correct settings.

Post back and let me know what yuo find out.

thanks for the post.

Both settings were checked and set correctly. I have all ready been over my settings with my ISP and they tell me that they are correct. This one is really starting to baffle me! [hammer]

This behavior can occur if the program called RNAAPP is leaving the modem port open, the wrong modem is selected in the connection settings, the Dial Up Networking program is corrupted, or there are extra settings in the modem causing the modem to not respond.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

End task on RNAAPP then try the connection again:
On the keyboard, press the keys CTRL + ALT + DELETE at the same time to view the Close Programs dialog box.
Click Rnaapp, click End Task and try the connection again.

If the error continues, reinstall the Dial Up Networking, which may be corrupted.

hey I fixed the problem well sort of hehe! I got cable broadband...You can say buh bye to dail-up..I hope I never have to go back to that again. thanks for your help.
