Hello !
I have recently installed Solaris X86 ( Version 9) through VMWARE but am having difficulty getting the CDE going.
I have already tried exporting the Display and downloading the patches but to no avail.
Does anyone know of any CDE log files that might tell me what the hell is going on ???!!!!!
The KDMConfig has been changed to 16 color Standard VGA 640 and the Multifrequency is now 100KHz. I have keep the default screen size of 17 inches.

Has anyone successfully got it going through VMWare ?

Cant find much on the web about it apart from suggesting the export and the installation instructions from VMware themselves.....
This is wrecking my head, please help !!!!!

Forgot to mention, I have also installed the x86 Video Drivers and porting kit.

There is a session log under the .dt directory... The only time I have seen the error you are getting is when the DISPLAY environment variable is not being set properly.

Thanks, I have set the display as follows.

DISPLAY=192.168.x.x ; export DISPLAY

Have tried setting the IP address to both the Vmware Image and the PC it is running on but to no avail.

Also see nothing in the output of 'dmesg' (var/adm/messages)

The DISPLAY variable should be set up like:

DISPLAY=<nodename>:0

I guess you can use the IP Address... I have never done that.

Ken... Your syntax is correct... I found I didn't need .0 when doing remote logins.

I think you're right bfitzmai, the default is .0 but you can use .1, .2 etc for other 'consoles' I think.

Thanks lads. Tried both options but to no avail. Maybe it's something to do with VMware itself ?

Was sorted by issuing the following command.

xhost + localhost
