i had some programs that i needed to remove. did that as usual by uninstall. now get error as blss winsockets won't activate. went to folders containing blss and app file won't respond. tried to use xp pro disk to do repair and still get same error message. trying not to have to format and lose all programs and files i have. need some advice on where and how to reload whatever is needed. cannot find file on xp pro disk files so not sure where to get the repair files or what to do after i find where to obtain them. can't understand why xp dsk would not repair it when surely if i format and do a complete reinstall i wouldn't have this problem seeing how i have never encountered it before or on any other installs i do on my other units.

Try
Start>Control Panel> *Switch to classic view* > Add/Remove Programs

What is blss it is not a Windows file? What file are you trying to find on your Windows CD?

Have a look in your Event Viewer for any errors or other clues. See if you can get the exact error message you are having and post that here.

A general thing to try might be using one of these programs to fix your damaged Winsock entries.

Another thing you might try is using System Restore to get back to before you uninstalled the programs that started the problem in the first place.
