I have a Windows 2000 user who just started getting a strange error during startup. The titlebar says cmd.exe - No Disk then the body of the error says "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR1."

I have tried searching the net but the only similar thing I've found is a microsoft document that is talking about winword.exe instead of cmd.exe it's here -Although he does have an Iomega drive installed, it is configured as drive D. His hard drive is correctly labelled as drive C. Does anyone have any ideas why this error might be occurring and/or how to fix it?

Thanks,
Shauna

Some Exxplorer extensions will throw this error if there is no disk in the zip drive.

It just seems really odd that it just started happening all at once. To my knowledge nothing has changed between today and the last time he used the computer and he rarely uses the zip drive so it is normal not to have a disk in it. I'll ask him to put a disk in during his next login and see if that changes the behavior. Based on what you said and the MS document it doesn't sound like a major problem. As long as everything seems to be working fine, I'll just tell him to live with it. Thanks!

It could be that the last time he shut down he had a zip disk in and took it out after shutting down but before the power was shut off.

I'm Certifiable, not certified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

He had to leave to do fieldwork for today but I'll ask Monday if that was the case. It just occurred to me that he has been in the field all week except today and we had a power outage last weekend so the problem first started after the first login after power loss. I don't know if that could have any impact on this type of error but it seems possible.

I don't know how to post the screenshot here. Wouldn't the image have to be saved on a web server? If so, I'm probably out of luck.

Event Viewer can help. A typical entry would be like:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup
Event Category: None
Event ID: 26
Date: 10/29/2003
Time: 11:19:14 AM
User: N/A
Computer: PATEL2
Description:
Application popup: cisvc.exe - No Disk : There is no disk
in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive
\Device\Harddisk1\DR1.

Just to update - putting in a zip disk during startup seemed to get rid of the error. That seems pretty weird to me, but as long as it works I won't worry about it. Thanks again to everyone for their help!

This error will likely go away after time, as whatever zip reference is hanging around will eventually age out of the system.
