Error 8004

Hi,

I'm running Arcserve 2000 SP4 on a Windows 2000 server w/ SP4. Attached is a Compaq TL891DLX library w/ 2 tape drives. Recently I've been getting this Error code 8004 Media Manually inserted in drive[device #] in changer...This message only appears before the backup starts on the day that the tapes have changed. We only change the tapes weekly. Does anyone know what this means? How can I have manually insert a tape in a library? Any insight would be appreciated.

when changing media in a library it is necesary to do either a dismount/mount or an inventory.

Yes when we change the media we do an eject, dismount and when the media is changed is goes through an inventory and a mount. There is no error messages at this time.

Also make sure conflicting software is not loaded. See Which Driver Should I Use? faq478-3987.

Thank you davidmichel for your input. The drives are disabled and this server is dedicated just for arcserve so there's no other software loaded besides Arcserve which I should have probably mention earlier.

Check the Device configuration, because you will get the message when the drives are switched in the configuration.

example:
The first drive has the scsi address 1 and the second 2.
The library has 2 positions where drives can be. Normally the scsi 1 drive is on position 1 and the scsi 2 drive has position 2. but when some one change the configuration in Brightstor that Brightstor mean that the drive with scsi address 2 is on position one and scsi 1 drive is on position 2 then you have this problem. Because Brightstor tray to insert a tape in drive on position one and wait on scsi address 2 that the drive confirm. in the time where Brightstore is waiting of answer now the drive scsi 1 that they get a tape. Brightstor think in this moment that a user must insert this tape because they don send a tape in this drive.

To fix the problem eject all tape from the drive. Start the device configuration and remove the drive shown in the device config and click on the auto config. when you are finish then it's repaired.
