Error 3706 protocol adapter error with ADO?

Does any one know what this means?

I am using
WINDOWS 2000
VB 6.0
MDAC version 2.6
Provider = OraOLEDB.Oracle
Oracle 8.1.7

I get the problem when I try to connect to the database. I know the code works ok as I have an NT machine and the code works ok there. On my W2K machine I can connect to the Oracle database via sqlplus but when I try to connect using ADO I get the protocol adapter error.

I don't believe anything was changed on my computer since yesterday when it was working ok.

Please offer some suggestions.

I did the MDAC upgrade this is what has caused the problem.



Help....
Can I undo the upgrade, is there something I'm missing?
