Hey folks,
some weeks ago a dream has come true and my wive saved me some money for an awesome secondhand 14'' ibook.
My only problem: I cannot install any dmg-files downloaded with a Win-machine at a friends highspeed internetaccess.
At versiontracker.com someone seemed to have had the same problem but he doesn't answer to my question on the solution he found days later himself:
His answer was:
Error 199 axxll_dotmac
I deleted the pref. file and everything went back to normal.
Happy to report

My question: what and where is the pref. file ?? I can't find it, though as a Linux/UNIX-User I do not fear the command line.
Background:
The old OS9-style Stuffit-files install perfectly. Also Keynote 1.0 installation worked fine. I reinstalled OSX 10.2.8 and received Error 29 (not shure about the number). Then I installed OSX 10.3 and received Error 199. Some people warned, that the downloaded files may be corrupt. But I downloaded many different stuff and all the downloads work perfect on other OS's.
I did Repair Permissions and tried to delete different cache-directories. My DiskImageMounter .app cannot be the problem as I reinstalled the OS. I tried Mount.app.
Is it possible, that I have to download the files directly on the ibook instead of passing by the Win98-machine ?
Thank you for any help to a slightly frustrated newby who bought a Mac wanting to flee from the constant userunfriendly configration battle on Linux not keen to touch any M$soft again.
