Careful with the terminology as by 'idiots guide' its reasonable to assume you meant the Equinox team at Avaya.

1. I don't know about IE but Avaya have dropped support for it from Avaya Communicator for Web from 30th Sept so wouldn't be shocked to find the same for Equinox if it had IE support.

2. Google in their security sweep of apps and extensions spotted that Avaya were being very naughty and forcing an extension on people's Chrome browsers. They ordered a stop to that. Rather than coding up a nice optional installation or putting their extension into the store of Google approved extension, they (the Avaya idiots) released a set of workaround instructions that require the user to hack the registry on their PC!!!!

From the Avaya manual:

Enabling the Avaya Equinox Client Google Chrome browser extension

Install Equinox Client.
Procedure
1. To clean up any existing Google Chrome extension registry values for Equinox Client, from C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\Avaya Equinox
\fTarget, run RemoveChromeExtension.reg.

2. To add the Google Chrome extension registry values for Equinox Client, from
C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\Avaya Equinox\fTarget, run
AddChromeExtension.reg.
3. Restart the Google Chrome browser.
The system displays the Equinox Client browser Chrome add-in, which works properly on Google Chrome.

Uninstalling the Avaya Equinox Client Google Chrome browser extension
1. From C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\Equinox\fTarget, run
RemoveChromeExtension.reg.
2. Restart the Google Chrome browser.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Thanks for your reply Sizbut,

Idiots guide is a commonly used term in the UK for a quick Ref or simple guide to do something (a bit like Avaya 'For Dummies' series :)

I've tried the method you've mentioned above but theres no AddChromeExtension.reg. in the fTarget folder? I'm at the latest version of equinox so it may have been removed?

also tried extension.crx which is also in another doc

any ideas

Dave

I know what idiots guide means, I'm no idiot :) Just riffing on whether its a guide for idiots or by idiots. When someone expects normal end users to dig around their PCs registry settings then I tend to think its the latter.

I'm pretty sure there was a product support notice at the time. I've left the office now but will dig around tomorrow morning if someone else doesn't beat me to it.

Had to install the new 3.7 version of the Windows client today and they have pulled their thumbs out and implmented the proper fix, ie: the client installer now asks if you want to install the extension.

You can also now find the extension in the Chrome Web Store and install from there. Don't know if it will work with earlier versions of the client, but worth a try installing the extension from there (certainly much easier than fiddling with user registry settings).
