Help!
I have a stylus color 880 printer and it quit working. The printer is connected via USB and has worked for several months without any problems. The computer is an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ with 513 mb of RAM.
When you turn the printer on, it begins to go thru the startup and then all the lights flash and nothing else happens.
I have cleaned the printer and the print head. I checked and cleaned the paper path, etc. I have e-mailed Epson and they sent me the procedure to re-set the bios. The problem is that the procedure they sent me was for the Epson 800 and not the 880. Their only suggestion was to take it to a service center for repair.
I am experienced with computers and printers and would appreciate any help that anyone can offer me with this problem.

Thank you.

Have you tried a new ink cartridge? Epson printers often stop when the printer thinks the cartridge is empty.

Hi eaglei!

My wife has a similar setup (XP Pro PC, 512RAM, Color 880) and it still works great with no problems! Here's a few things to try in hopes you'll get back on track:

1] Try removing it completely and then adding it back into "Printers and Faxes".

2] Try leaving it turned on. Sounds silly perhaps, but hers always has the green light showing and snaps into action whenever needed!

3] Install or reinstall the Monitoring software that lets you check ink levels, clean the heads, etc.

4] Reinstall the drivers, and get the latest from Epson. They have drivers specifically for XP, and you may have been using the originals.

That's all I can think of right now. I hope this helps!

Neil :)

Are you using Epson ink or "shops own" ink?

some cheap inks can damage the epson heads. The only way to fix this is to replace the heads.

I have come across this prob alot in London and in some cases it's cheaper to buy a new printer than replace the print heads (labour intensive job).

Hope this helps.

John

Another thing, is the print head movable (with the power off)? Try cleaning and lubricating (silicon spray on a cotton ball) the "slider bar". I have an old Epson Stylus 600 that I have to "clean and lube" it about once a year.
