We have EPO 3.1 (MSDE)on server(2003 std), i installed the client on a laptop wich worked fine.

one of my colleagues installed another application that uses the same MSDE but he changed the SA password. Problem is that i cannot connect from the client console to the EPO server now, i have tried to reinstall the console on another computer but still cannot connect.

On the server the EPO works fine, updates are fine also.

Is there anything that i can do connect via client console, is there some setting in EPO that has the password for SA hardcoded, i cannot remember entering a password for it when i installed it initially.

Any help will be most appreciated.

Many Thanks

If you want to change the SA account's password so that ePO knows what it is, browse to C:\Program Files\McAfee\ePO\3.0.1, look for CfgNaiMs.Exe. That should allow you to tell the ePO Server what the new SA password is. Once you've done that, you may need to stop and restart the ePO Server services.

Reading your message, it sounds like your Console works fine on the server itself but won't accept it remotely so I'm not sure if the above will help, but wouldn't hurt to try. You may also want to verify the Port used for ePO Console communications and make sure your remote Consoles are configured correctly.

did you upgrade the seveur with Patch 5 ?

in that cas you also need to apply this patch on the console itself

I looked at that the CfgNaiMs.Exe, and authentication is based on Windows. Not to sure what the crack is there.. the installation versions are both the same. no other updates have been applied.

I have checked the ports that the console to server communicate on, and that is set to the standard 81, no changes have been made to the ports.

I know that the SA password was changed to allow this other application to be installed, so i am guessing that when i installed EPO on the server, SA password must have been blank. When the password was changed console has not been able to comunicate since.

Many Thanks

When you execute CfgNaiMs.exe, you would select the SQL Server tab and confirm it is set for your ePO Server. Then select the Administrator tab, where you would then select "Use SQL authentication". In username, enter SA and then enter the correct SA password. Repeat for the Reviewer tab.
