All of a sudden, I can't print envelopes. It always worked, but now I get a message that "Margins are set outside printable area" I have not changed margins, but I have tried every conceivable setting, it won't work?

Hi mintzs1,

The problem is due to the way Word determines what your printer can print - it seems to partly use what you tell Word itself, and partly use what is set up in your printer outside Word. There don't seem to be any hard and fast rules to this and it can be a major irritant but if you are doing this 'hands on' at your PC, then try just clicking OK and seeing if it prints anyway. If you are trying to do it from code it might be a bit more awkward.

Enjoy,
Tony

Q:
I keep getting Margins are set outside printable area errors, but the envelope prints out just fine. How can I get rid of these error messages?

A:
You'll need to adjust the minimum margins that Enveloper uses for its envelopes. In WOPR XP/2002 select "Customize Enveloper" from the WOPR Commander's "Enveloper Tools" fly-out menu, or in WOPR 2000, select "Customize" from the "Enveloper Tools" fly-out menu listed on Microsoft Word's "Tools" menu, or in WOPR 97, select "Customize" from the "Enveloper 97" fly-out menu listed on Microsoft Word's "Tools" menu. Once the Enveloper Customize dialog box appears, flip over to the "Envelope List" tab, select your envelope, and click on the Edit button. Select the "Margins & Barcodes" sub-tab of the "Envelope Settings" tab and find the proper minimum margins for your printer by clicking on the "Auto Margins" button. Enveloper will determine the minimum margins that can be used by your printer driver and enter them into the "Minimum Margins" boxes that are just above the Auto Margins button. Click the "Test Print" button to test print your envelope with the new margin settings. If the envelope prints okay, click the "Save & Close Env" button to save your margin settings and repeat the process for all of your envelopes.
If on the other hand, you still get the "margins out of printable area of page" error message, then you'll need to do some experimenting to find out which margin settings work the best for your printer. Follow the steps listed above to get to the Minimum Margins boxes for your envelope and increase the various minimum margin values for the envelope a bit at a time until you find the correct margin settings for your printer that stop the error message from appearing. Usually, it is just one or two of the margin values that are causing your printer driver to complain. Once you find the perfect margin settings for your printer, copy the margin values to all of your envelope templates.
