Enumerate each active SQL server on a network and MSDE on local hd

Does anyone have code for finding all of the active instances of SQL Server on a network and MSDE on a local machine?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

try this here, I know it is in C# but you can try a translate program and the sort out the bugs
