End user is using a "roaming profile" when ever he/she connects to email (via outlook 03') (Note profile is absolutly fine) The user is prompted to re-config their account to point to the exchange server.

ex. You config the account (on the profile) she will see her mail box, but I'm almost positive the account is not touching the exchange box.

So far this is what I've got for notes from another tech....see below:

There are two mailboxes in the Exchange server with the name of Mgarretson. The Exchange mailbox will not delete the second box until the "store" is defragmented. This was attempted last week and failed. It needs to be rescheduled to be resolved.

I realize this information is nothing which has to do w/ what I've listed thus far, but it's just more info to trying and tracking this issue down.

I thought of created a brand NEW account (in AD and create a NEW mailbox and then merge the old mailboxes to the new account. Is something like this doable? If not I really can't think of anything else I can do.

Oi.

Roaming profile is a red herring if you're suffering how I think you are suffering.

Look in Exchange System Manager at EVERY store/mailboxes. See if she really DOES exist twice. It is possible that she was moved from one store to another and it failed during the move. If and ONLY if you find two, do this...

Note the store where she has a red X and note the store where she has a normal icon. In ADUC, using Exchange tasks, move her from the store with no red X to the store with the red X. Exchange will notice the problem and resolve it.

If there are not 2 entries for her, it is probably the Outlook profile that has two entries. Delete the whole profile, not just the mailbox setting within the profile, and recreate with a new profile name.

As always.... this stuff is always dropped onyou when you have no idea what's going on (even wout looking at it yourself....

OK... so I connect to the user's machine (w/ their account) It asks you to config outlook to exchange (yippie skippy)

I do it.... no problems (thus far... you send an EMAIL internally you get the following message as well....

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: test email (internally)
Sent: 1/4/2008 10:21 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Mary-Margaret Garretson on 1/4/2008 10:21 AM
A configuration error in the recipient's e-mail system prevented delivery of this message. Two recipients are configured with the same e-mail address. Contact your administrator.
<exchange.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx. com#5.1.4>

Alrighty then....... I understand what it means, but what the heck do you do about it? is it because of the system not being able to defag the db and removing the old account?

ok.... more fuel to the fire... again... I found more info on this.....

the user w/ the problem named Mary Garretson (mgarretson) has the following information associated to her account when looking at her properties info (in outlook) so you go to the email address tab and I see smtp setting pointing to a completely "non existant user" names matt o'neil@domain.com

Why the hell is that happening? Also how do I disassociate this email information and associate the correct info to mary?

I hope this makes sense... Another note, the matt account does NOT exist in ADUC...

should I wipe out the roaming profile completly? and start from scratch that way?

In Mary's SMTP tab remove any SMTP entries and add in mary@domain.com and see if that cures it. Then tackle a useful SMTP address.

Don't delete the roaming profile - this is not a windows profile problem. You could delete the Outlook profile as per my original post just to rule that out.
